Camp Virginia Spring Work Party. March 30-April 1, Roanoke, VA. We are going to take a weekend and start fixing up Camp Virginia Jaycee and get it ready for the campers this coming summer. If you are handy with power tools, hammers, paint brushes, or just good at telling people what to do, then is a perfect weekend for you. We have plenty of fixer-up-opportunities for all to take part in.

Please contact CDVP Emily Puente to sign up. If you have any items you would like to donate to Camp, please bring them with you. Also, please bring your own tools. We aren't sure what we will have available for us at Camp other than paint and paint brushes. Lodging and meals will be free that weekend.

Rebuilding Together Alexandria. Help needy citizens improve their houses.

Morning shift starts with some coffee and donuts at 8:00 and goes until 12:00.  (Then lunch!!), and the afternoon shift can begin shortly after the lunch break (we're thinking pizza) and goes until 4:00.  You will get a free t-shirt also!

Hiking Trip to Sugarloaf Mountain. Join the Jaycees for an approximately 2 1/2 mile hike on Sugarloaf Mountain, located near Clarksburg on the border of Montgomery and Frederick Counties. We will meet at 9:30 AM to carpool from Alexandria and arrive at the mountain by 11. We will begin hiking and then stop for lunch at a scenic vista, completing our hike after lunch. The hike, while short, is moderately strenuous with considerable trekking up and down hills. We will return to Alexandria in the mid-late afternoon. There is no cost. For those of you who can’t make this hike, we will have another hike to Shenandoah National Park in July -- details to be provided.

Red Cross Waterfront Festival. Oronoco Bay Park, Old Town. 2:30 - 6:30 p.m. Get a tan and sell some beer! What could be better than that? Join the Alexandria Chapter of the American Red Cross as it hosts the 26th annual Waterfront Festival. Jaycees are needed to help check IDs and serve beer to festival attendees. Washington Nationals Game And Tailgate Party. Join us on Saturday evening to see our Nats play the Cleveland Indians in an interleague game. We will meet in parking lot #8 of RFK Stadium (easily accessible from I-395 and closest to the Anacostia River) at 5:30 PM for a tailgate party featuring hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and a variety of beverages. We will then make our way into the stadium for the game, which starts at 7:05 PM. Total cost is $20, which includes tailgate party and game ticket. You may travel to the stadium on your own; however for those who wish to ride together we will try to arrange carpools to save on parking costs. Shenandoah Park Hiking Trip. We will depart at 10:00 AM and arrive at Shenandoah around noon. We will eat lunch and then do our hike. Tailgate party & baseball game (Washington Nationals v. San Francisco Giants). The game starts at 7:05 PM and we will meet in RFK Parking Lot #8 at 5:30 for some tailgating, which will include food (hot dogs, bratwurst, hamburgers, etc.) and plenty of beer and soft drinks. Those of who joined us for our last tailgate party prior to the game against the Cleveland Indians on June 23 know just how much fun this is. Also, this time I will remember to bring the ketchup and mustard.

Cost: $25 per person (includes ticket and the food and beverages at the tailgate). You do not need to drive to the stadium -- you can metro down and just meet us in the parking lot. If you do drive on your own, parking is $15 per car, which is not included in the $25 price quoted above. We will be sitting in the 400 level, the lower seats in the upper deck (purple seats). There is no cost for attendees.  The chapter will provide the beverages (sodas and water), hotdogs and hamburgers, condiments, plates and silverware, but we ask attendees to provide side dishes or desserts.  If your last name begins with A-N, please bring a side dish.  If your last name begins with O-Z, please bring a dessert.

Coats for Kids Project.  7 pm. Join us as we help the Coats for Kids Foundation (http://www.coats-for-kids.org) unload, sort, and tag more than 800 NEW winter coats for delivery to underprivileged kids in Alexandria and around the country. Once sorted and tagged according to size, we’ll prep the donated coats for distribution. While the majority of the distribution is done in Alexandria, CFK donates coats around the U.S.   If you’d like to volunteer, please contact Amy at membership_vp@alexjaycees.org.

The Alexandria Jaycees seek volunteers to help run a concession stand at the Alexandria Fall Festival at Armistead L. Boothe Park, 520 Cameron Station Blvd., Alexandria on Saturday, October 13. Del Ray Children's Parade. 11am – 4 pm, Mt. Vernon Recreation Center, Alexandria. Scholarship Fund of Alexandria Telethon, T.C. Williams High School, 3330 King Street. 4 to 9:30 pm. This fund was created to help underprivileged students attending T.C. Williams High School, the only public high school in Alexandria, offset the cost of a college or technical school education through grants and scholarships. City of Alexandria Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held in Historic Market Square in Old Town from 7-9 p.m. We will enjoy musical entertainment with greetings from the Mayor and Santa Claus. The Alexandria Jaycees will meet at 6:45 p.m. outside of La Madeleine in Old Town. Then we will walk over to the Tree Lighting at the Historic Market Square and following the tree lighting, the Jaycees will walk to Ireland’s Own for drinks.

Holiday Shopping Tour. 7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., Alexandria. The Alexandria Jaycees will hold their annual holiday shopping tour for underprivileged children on December 8. Volunteer to help children shop for holiday presents for their families and friends. Following the shopping spree, we’ll have a pizza party, gift wrapping, and a visit from Santa!
